Job title: Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired (QTVI

Location: This vacancy is based from our North West office in Oldham.

We also have a North East office in Sunderland and a Scotland office based in Dumfries. We’re excited to continue growing across the UK and are always exploring opportunities to expand our services.

ATtherapy are a vibrant and growing company offering a range of different services including speech and language therapy, assistive technology, vision impairment support and AAC mentoring. We have growing teams in the North of England and Scotland.

ATtherapy support people of all ages with their speech, language, communication and technology needs. We also support people with eating, drinking and swallowing needs. Many of the people we work with have communication difficulties as a result of birth injuries or acquired brain injuries.

We are recruiting a Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired (QTVI) to join our established and friendly team in the field of acquired brain injury and complex communication needs. We have a caseload split of approx. 20% adults and 80% paediatrics: many of our clients having physical disabilities alongside complex communication challenges. We are looking for a dynamic innovative individual that can join our North West team and we are interested in exploring part time or associate roles.

We have an established VI service which has been effective for several years and now, due to retirement we are looking to further develop this service. We are looking for an innovative individual who can support bridging the gap between visual access and communication development and collaborate directly with Speech and Language Therapists and Assistive Technologists.

By partnering together, we aim to create a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach that optimises clinical outcomes for all individuals with a visual impairment.

Role Overview

Our team would like to hear from you if you are dynamic and enthusiastic and have more than 3 years’ experience as a QTVI and have experience working with people with complex needs. Your role will involve assessing functional vision and working closely with clients, therapists and families to make the best use of residual vision to aid and develop communication. You will also at times be required to deliver training regarding vision impairment and the impact of sight loss. An interest in technology for communication and how it can benefit vision impaired is beneficial but not essential for application as training can be provided.
